Australia doesn’t have any organic cotton production. In addition, Amber Co’s extensive research has identified that no weaving company in Australia has the capabilities for weaving bed linen.
As an alternative, India produces 74% of the world’s organic cotton (Textile Exchange,2013) and is well set up to manufacture quality items. Disreputable firms take shortcuts like blending their higher and lower quality cotton fibres or use excessive chemicals to make the cotton feel better. These techniques weaken the final product, and give the entire cotton industry in that country a bad name.
By ensuring GOTS certification, cottons are not blended during the processing and no toxic chemicals are used during the finishing production process.
The Indian’s have a rich history in weaving dating from around 3000BC. Textiles are one of the largest export items of India. To reduce the potential for poor practices, the quality control measures put in place by Amber Co are detailed here.
