Do not believe that higher thread count is better.

Thread count refers to the number of horizontal and vertical threads woven together in a square inch of fabric.

In addition to counting the number of woven threads the thread count can be increased by also counting the number of ply that is spun together in each thread.

In a multi-ply sheet, short fibre cotton (lower grade) is spun together to produce a thicker, coarser yarn. Despite the thread count in this case being higher a lower grade product is the result.

Some experts suggest that the incremental comfort value of thread counts over 300 in a quality product is very little. It’s best to judge fabrics by their hand, weight and yarn quality, not their thread count.
