The weave of a fabric ultimately affects how it looks and feels. A weave is a matter of personal preference. Often it is recommended to feel the fabric before purchase. This is usually a challenging exercise as it can feel different after several washes. At Amber Co you can order a FREE swatch sample (one per customer) to try before you buy. Ensure you get the perfect match and feel for your bedroom before making any purchase.

Percale

Percale is a type of plain weave - one thread over, one thread under - that allows air to pass through.

Amber Co offers a thread count of 300 for it’s luxurious Percale collection. The exceptional softness and durability mean it gets better with every wash, without pilling. It is lightweight and breathable, making it especially perfect for the summer months or warmer sleepers. Percale sheeting is well suited for bedding that gets a lot of use or women who suffer from night-sweats. Percale is most commonly used in hotel linen.

Sateen

Sateen is an elegant weave of four threads over, one thread under, which places more threads on the surface of the cloth to give a silky smooth feel and sheen. The sateen weave traps air and holds in warmth so it's especially inviting in winter. Not to be confused with satin, sateen is very special to sleep in but not as hard wearing as percale. Sateen does pill more quickly than percale and can exhibit 'fluffy' properties after several washes.
